ALAN Julian says Billericay Town’s ‘bouncebackability’ will stand them in good stead as they bid to secure success in the Isthmian Premier League this season

Town could have hit top spot this evening only for their match at Brightlingsea Regent to be postponed because of a frozen pitch.

Goalkeeper Julian has been in terrific form between the posts in recent times and has kept five clean sheets in his last 10.

Billericay have only conceded two goals from open play in their last eight outings, and Julian says the team is in good spirits after a 2-0 win at play-off hopefuls Staines Town on Saturday.

“It was a very good result and performance,” he said. “We haven’t had many bad results this season but when we have dropped points we have bounced back straight away.

“It happened after last week’s 2-2 draw against Merstham, and following league and cup defeats earlier in the season, so Saturday’s win was important.

“Staines were the division’s top scorers before Saturday and we kept them out and we were worthy of that.

“They were missing two big players (Elliott Buchanan and Mohamed Bettamer) and when we saw their team sheet it was a boost to see they weren’t playing but they have many other players that could cause us problems.

“I don’t think they had a shot in the first half and we did well in the second half and stayed alert when they did look threatening.

“We have moved to four at the back and that has helped sure things up as we have an extra defender,” he added.

“But it takes 11 players to get a clean sheet in the same way it takes 11 players to score goals as well. It is a team game for a reason and we all need to contribute.”

Julian, 34, has been a regular between the sticks since joining from Bromley in February and has played in all 18 league games so far this season.

And, while he has an impressive back-line in front of him, Julian says there is more to his game than staying switched on when he is needed to make a save.

“I keep myself very involved in the game and that comes with experience,” he said. “I am always communicating and making sure they do their jobs in front of me.

“I am doing bits and pieces and if I do that the less I will have to do in terms of making saves and the fewer goals the opponent will score.

“We will go back top tomorrow but personally I just want the win. If we get the win then going top is a formality. I am just going to make sure I communicate well control the controllables to give us the best chance.”
