BASILDON United closed the gap on the Essex Senior League leaders with a 1-0 win over promotion rivals Takeley.

The Bees had not played a league game since December 21 but that did not matter as Charlie Kendall's goal made it three straight 1-0 victories in the division.

And the result was one that hugely satisfied manager Marc Harrison.

"It was a fantastic win," he said. "We made some good notes from the last time we played them, we defended well and got another clean sheet as well.

"We had to set out the correct characteristics and if we continue to graft we will get the wins we deserve.

"If you can beat sides like that then you can take a lot of credit from that.

"It was difficult to get the upper hand at times but we tried to be vocal and we did ourselves proud. Sometimes it isn't pretty but we got the result."

Southend Manor scored a last minute equaliser to secure a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Clapton.

Rhys Fatt had put Manor up against Clapton as they bid to return to form after a difficult fortnight.

But back came Clapton who scored twice before the break to hand them the advantage.

Fatt got his second of the match but Clapton hit back for a third time to move 3-2 ahead heading into the closing stages.

But Manor didn't give up and Bayley Newell scored a last minute equaliser to secure a point.

Great Wakering Rovers did not play this weekend.
