MARC Harrison says he has no concerns over Basildon United’s lack of football ahead of a key battle towards the top of the Essex Senior League against Takeley tomorrow.

Fifth placed Bees host second-placed Takeley knowing victory would see the two level on 47 points.

Takeley have played four league matches since Basildon last played on November 21, but that is not concerning Harrison.

“It has been a while but we needed it,” said the Bees boss. “We have used it as a chance to freshen up and do different things and we are raring to go.

“I am not concerned as the players train like they play and offer a high intensity.

“We had a positive experience at Billericay in the Essex Senior Cup and we have another big game against a top side.

“Games like this are the reason I came here and we are excited at the challenge.

“If you said to me that with the resources I have that we would be up there I would have told you you were mad.”

Hullbridge Sports face a trip to fellow strugglers Barkingside in the league, looking to continue their excellent recent form under new manager Darren Manning.

Following two defeats in the first two games, Sports are unbeaten in four matches and have won the last three - including beating Enfield 1893 in the FA Vase last weekend.

A win will see them level on points with Barkingside and would likely see them climb off the foot of the table.

Sports are without Joe Pattison, Jordan Meikle and Sam Taylor, while goalkeeper Jamie Merralls is suspended.

Southend Manor are looking to end a four match losing slump against Clapton, and will be determined to tighten things up at the back.

Manor have conceded 17 goals in the last four games and need to sharpen up defensively if they want to close the gap on the leaders.

Great Wakering Rovers do not play tomorrow, as they return to action next week.
