HULLBRIDGE Sports are into the last 32 of the FA Vase after they defeated Enfield 1893 to continue their revival under Darren Manning.

Both sides were towards the bottom of the Essex Senior League, with progression very much up for grabs.

And it was Sports that landed the first blow. A strike from Joe Pattison hit a hand on the way through and Jimmy Cox scored from the penalty spot.

An Enfield free-kick came close to levelling proceedings before Sports doubled their lead from the penalty spot once again five minutes after half time.

Cox made no mistake before Enfield halved the deficit with a spot kick of their own.

A red card for home goalkeeper Jamie Merralls cranked up the pressure in the final 10 minutes, with Cox donning the gloves.

But Harry Watkins’ stunning free-kick made it 3-1 to all but assure progress, with Enfield’s late second a mere consolation.

Great Wakering Rovers didn’t have as much luck as they exited the competition at the same phase.

Rovers lost 2-0 to Northampton-based Cogenhoe United at Burroughs Park.

In the Essex Senior League Southend Manor had an afternoon to forget at high-flying Takeley going down 4-0.
