EAST Thurrock United put in one of their best displays of the season to demolish 10-man Welling United 3-0.

Sam Higgins scored twice, following Reece Harris' opener.

Rocks were injury-stricken but started impressively against Welling. Only the acrobatics of Ryan Sandford kept the scores level, with the goalkeeper springing into action to keep out Higgins.

Harris was then prevented from doubling the advantage by Sandford, who was enjoying a superb afternoon between the sticks.

Higgins had two headers excellently saved before Harry Wright was finally called into action up the other end.

The Rocks stopper, playing in the last match of a loan spell, punched Bradley Goldberg’s header to safety midway through the half.

But it was Rocks that deservedly took the lead. Former Welling man Harris found the corner.

In charge at the break, Rocks were indebted to Marvin Ekpiteta at the onset of the second period, his block denying a certain equaliser.

Wright kept out Goldberg next as the pressure intensified before a shot in the arm for John Coventry’s team.

Connor Dymond was sent off and, having hit the post, Rocks did get the second.

Higgins raced onto a through ball to score with 20 minutes remaining.

And a superb afternoon was topped off when the same man curled a terrific effort into the corner to make it 3-0.
