Patriotic performers will take to the stage to showcase some of the best songs to come from Great Britain.

The Maldon Promenaders, first formed in the Eighties, will put on the Best of British charity event at Maldon Town Hall next Friday, November 24, and Saturday, November 25.

This year the group are raising money for Buddies Children’s Centre and Hope and Encouragement for Lone Parents (Help).

There will be something to suit all tastes with songs ranging from golden classics such as Half a Sixpence, England Swings and Alfie, to modern-day anthems such as Dance with Me Tonight by Olly Murs.

There will also be the legendary Ballad of Barry and Freda by the late Victoria Wood.

Trevor Enefer, chairman, who is producing this year’s show, said: “Best of British is a humorous look at what puts the Great before Britain, what typifies us Brits and what we have given to the world in music and song.

“We encourage audience participation and I’ve chosen some popular melodies so the audience can sing along.

“Our two chosen charities provide much needed support to many adults and children in Maldon and we wanted to help the town by giving them some vital financial support in return.”

The Maldon Promenaders, known affectionately as the Prommies, began as part of the Plume School Parent Teachers’ Association.

The group began with a single show which was such an immense success it became an annual event.

They renamed themselves the Maldon Promenaders and continued staging annual shows in support of charities.

The show will take place at 8pm on Friday, November 24 and at both 2.30pm and 8pm on Saturday, November 25.
