HISTORY of Maldon’s Plume Academy will be displayed next month with pictures from the last century.

Sarah Dignasse, headteacher of Plume for 11 years from 1997 to 2008, has been dedicating her retirement to sorting through the academy’s archives of pictures.

The historical pictures span from the early 1900s right up to the start of the 21st century.

Unfortunately, the people in many of the photos have no names recorded, so now Ms Dignasse is holding a meeting to invite the public to help identify many of the people photographed through Plume’s history.

She said: “One of the things I promised myself I would do after retiring from the school was to go through all the archives and give them a good sort through.

“We have nearly a century’s worth of history buried away within these photos, and to unearth them all has been a joy.

“The only shame was that the names of most of the people in the photos either weren’t recorded, or the writing on the back has faded, meaning we have all these great photos of interesting people, yet we don’t know who they are.

“That’s why we’re putting on this display to exhibit the photos to the public, we’re sure that many people who have lived in Maldon for many years will know who these people are.”

The display will be held at Plume’s Fambridge Road campus on November 20. People are also invited to bring along any of their own photos from their school days at Plume, so they can be scanned and added to the academy’s collection.

There will also be the old school admission record books on display, meaning people can see when their relatives will have attended school.

Sarah added: “I know there are many historians in the area and those who are genuinely interested in the town’s previous years, and this will be a fine chance to showcase some more of it.

“The more people we get coming along, the more we may be able to name in our photos.”

The event will take place from 7pm to 9pm in the Dining Room at the academy on November 20.

Refreshments will be provided.
