A TOWN has been recognized for producing its own neighbourhood plan by the Essex Association of Local Councils.

Burnham residents voted to approve their long-awaited neighbourhood plan in July this year, after more than four years of development.

The plan, which was officially “made” by Maldon District Council this month, will now help with issues such as housing, infrastructure, flooding, parking and schooling should be approached.

It was worked on by more than 30 different groups of people over the course of its inception, and faced many setbacks and delays.

At the annual general meeting of The Essex Association of Local Councils on September 19, president of the association John Jowers presented Burnham town councillor Wendy Stamp with their Special Achievement Award for a Neighbourhood Plan 2017, addressed to Burnham Town Council.

Wendy Stamp said: “The Neighbourhood Plan is incredibly important. It describes how the people of Burnham see the future of the town and sets out planning policies for future development.

“The team worked incredibly hard to draft and finalise the plan and everyone’s contribution was invaluable.

“I’m delighted that this award recognises the effort that went into capturing our vision of Burnham going forward.”
