A SUNNY day and a stiff breeze were the ideal conditions for sailors competing in the Heybridge Regatta.
The annual event in the Heybridge Basin saw hundreds of people descend on the village to watch the events and enjoy the entertainment.
Keith Lawson, chairman of the Heybridge Regatta Committee, said: "The day went really well. We had about 35 yachts and upwards of 500 people came along.
"With good sunshine and a brisk breeze the large course was completed quickly. Events were keenly fought at a high standard and all the feedback we have had has been good."
The racing began at about 11.30am with sailing and then rowing events inshore being watched by the crowd.
Cake and photo competitions in the marquee proved very popular along with the fiercely contested greasy pole competition for anyone aged 14 or over.
A busy day was also planned for the children, some of whom had taken part in a treasure hunt the night before.
The Martin Clayborn swing band provided the music and were a big hit, according to committee secretary, Carole Wallpole.
She said: "The activities all went well. All the committee were so busy but everyone enjoyed it and the swing band were very good."
