A COUNCIL are set to give the final go ahead to an 84 home development in Heybridge.

In March last year, Maldon District Council granted outline planning permission for up to 100 homes to be built on land in Holloway Road, Heybridge.

Councillors will meet again at an extraordinary planning meeting to discuss a reserved matters application for the site.

The proposals put forward by developer Bellway Homes, reduces the number of houses planned for the site from 100 to 84, 30 per cent of which will be made up of affordable housing.

If the application is passed, the development will include seven one-bed apartments, six two-bed apartments, 34 two-bed homes, 22 three-bed homes and 15 four-bed homes.

The plans in their current form have been recommended for approval by the council’s planning officer, though objections have been received from concerned Heybridge residents.

They said: “There are few jobs, community facilities, doctors, dentists and school places for the new residents.

“Urbanisation would ruin this location and its rural character should be protected and not left for profit.”

The site has been identified as a key area in the council’s Local Development Plan, which identified the development as a strategic site, contributing to the five year housing land supply and being necessary for the successful deliver of the plan.

The planning officer responsible for the application said: “Officers at pre application, and following consultation responses on the submitted scheme, are of the view that the development is wholly appropriate for this site in the North Heybridge Garden Suburb.”

A final decision on the amendments to the plans will be made at a meeting of the full council on Thursday, at the council offices in Princes Road.
