BURNHAM is gearing up for its annual carnival with a host of events over the next few weeks.

The Burnham-on-Crouch Carnival will take place on Saturday September 30 this year, with the preceding week of celebrations being one of the biggest highlights of the town’s calendar.

Following on from last year’s success, Becca and Kelvin, owners of the Cabin Dairy on Burnham High Street, will again be hosting “Minute to Win It” on Wednesday September 27 in the Village Hall.

This is a big games night for all the family. Entry is at 7pm with teams of three to five, with massive prizes to be won.

This year’s Queen, Leonie Hunt, will be crowned after the games.

Entry is £2 per person and tickets will be available from King and Hines and the Cabin Dairy on Burnham High Street.

On Friday September 15, there will be the presentation of the winners of the annual carnival darts and dominoes for the singles and doubles tournaments at the New Welcome Sailor.

Monday September 25 will see an old favourite and carnival tradition, the quiz night in the Village Hall. Entry at 7pm, £2 per person in teams of 4, and refreshments will be available.

The baby show for babies from the Dengie aged up to 18 months will be held on Wednesday September 27 from 2pm at the Village Hall, entry £2.

Minimum age six months, age groups six to nine months, nine to 12 months, 12-15 months and 15-18 months. Entry forms are available from Savages and Boots.

On Thursday September 28, there will be the carnival bingo in the village hall from 7.45pm, admission £2.

On procession day, the high street will be closed to vehicles from 9am, with celebrations beginning with the Burnham Bake Off at 10.30am, with various other daytime entertainments until the procession begins at 7.30pm.
