A WOMAN has celebrated her 100th birthday at a care home in the Dengie.

Andree Day, who has lived at Down Hall Care Home in Bradwell for the past two years, celebrated the incredible milestone with her daughter Suzanne and friends on Friday last week.

Mrs Day was born in Lille, France in 1917 where she spent several of her early years, before moving to the UK and marrying her husband Edward in 1941.

Before having her only daughter Suzanne, Andree worked as a hairdresser for a number of years. She became a full time housewife to raise her daughter, and lived with her husband up until his death in 1993.

Suzanne Day said: "My mother has always been fiercely independent, she lived by herself, with some help from carers, after Edward died right up until she turned 98 two years ago and moved from her home in Sussex to Down Hall so she could be a little closer to me."

Louise Simon, activities co-ordinator for Down Hall, said: "The day went very well, she had some animals come to visit her as she loves them very much, as well as children from the local school and a memo delivered from the Queen."
