A BUSINESSWOMAN has started a new company aiming to improve children’s safety to the Dengie.

Mum-of-two Zoe Sheers, of Crouch Road, Burnham has joined newly-founded SafeGirl, which provide products to help children stay safe in the modern world.

The nationwide company, which was founded in April, sells personal alarms, safety kits for travellers and students, emergency kits, child locators and trackers and defence sprays amongst other items.

Zoe, 41, a full time buyer at WA Products on Springfield Industrial Estate, was inspired to get involved with the company due to children “being much more exposed” in today’s world.

She said: “After reading recent reports of suspicious people stalking schools in the Burnham area it really brought to light how exposed and vulnerable our children are in this day and age.

“Many kids are on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram which opens them up to a huge audience and makes it easier for them to get talking to strangers and meeting new people.

“There’s very little on the market that caters to children’s own personal safety when out and about – when seeing this new company start up I knew the people of the Dengie would want it for their children. It’s about giving them the right equipment to deal with an emergency should they find themselves in one.”

Residents in the Dengie can order products from Zoe, who will get and deliver to them from Chelmsford. She said feedback from the first month has been strongly positive. Female alarms start at £18 and male alarms £11.

She added: “I’m a mother of two myself and I know the potential dangers they face, it’s essential we provide the right equipment for them. Many young girls are happy to spend £20 on the latest mascara, yet overlook buying an £18 alarm which could potentially save their lives.”
