A BRADWELL outdoors centre is holding a naming competition for its three boats.

Essex County Council’s Essex Outdoors recently launched a competition for pupils at primary schools and academies asking for their help to name one of three new Dufour Drakkar yachts.

The three boats will be used by children, young people and adults for water based activities and sailing courses.

The competition opened on May 8 and closes on June 16. During this time pupils have the chance to enter the competition with a suggested name for one of the boats. From the entries, three winners will be selected and will win a sailing trip for themselves, five classmates and a teacher.

Ray Gooding, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I’m delighted to see a fun competition that seeks to involve children and give them the opportunity to be part of something as memorable as naming one of the new boats.

“Essex Outdoors is highly regarded by parents and teachers alike and is very popular with children. To succeed in the Outdoor Education market and continue to do so we must invest and expand our offering; the new boats are just one example of how we are doing this.

“Continued investment and development of the service will allow us to serve a wider section of the outdoor activity market and generate more income to invest back in to front line council services”.
