PUPILS and staff are celebrating a ringing endorsement from the education watchdog.

Ofsted rated All Saints Primary School in Highlands Drive, Maldon, as good. Inspector Cassandra Williams praised “strong teamwork” and teachers supporting each other to improve the school.

Her report found disadvantaged pupils were now achieving well, the consistency of writing taught across the school had improved, and attainment in science had improved.

Mrs Williams report praised headteacher Philip Brown for his work since being appointed in 2015.

She said: “The governors describe you as someone who has a passion for the school and it is clear that you are ambitious to make the school the best it can be.

“A seamless transition into your new role meant that you were able to tackle areas of weakness quickly.

“You lead the school with a strong conviction and a clear vision for the school’s future development. The local authority has confidence in your leadership and your ability to further improve the school.”

Mrs Williams said the school should now ensure spelling continues to improve, attendance levels for disadvantaged pupils improves and the pupil premium grant is directly linked to their specific needs.

Mr Brown said: “There’s a pressure on primary schools to deliver reading, writing and maths results and whilst it is vital to secure the fundamentals of English and maths, it is also crucial to inspire the scientists, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs and engineers of the future.”

Ian Dobson, chair of governors, added: “The leadership team at All Saints’ is committed to driving the school forward and achieving the best for young people in its care.”
