AN ENERGETIC Welsh folk band will be performing in Maldon this Monday.

Calan, who formed ten years ago, will perform at Maldon Town Hall on Monday, bringing their unique blend of fiddle, accordion, guitar, Welsh pipes and harp to create a contemporary sound with deep traditional Welsh roots.

These youngsters are seasoned, experienced professionals who breathe new life into the old traditions through their sparkling melodies, foot tapping tunes and spirited and energetic performances of Welsh step dancing.

They blast their way through some of the old favourite reels, jigs and hornpipes with fast paced and uplifting arrangements before melting into some of the most beautiful and haunting songs as they explore the legends of Wales’ very own fairy realm with tales of magic, myth and mischief.

They are great fun, a huge sense of humour and step-dancing from a champion dancer makes for an outstanding show.

Nicola Esson, founder of MacTheatre, organisers of the show, said: “You can’t beat hearing music like this played live and at this level. It’s an uplifting and motivating experience and extremely thrilling.

“We’re so lucky to hear original tunes and songs before their new album is released on May 12, here in Maldon.

"I know Maldon folks will thoroughly enjoy the evening and give both Calan and Dan Wilde a warm welcome.”

The concert begins at 8pm. Tickets are £12.50. Visit www.mactheatre.org.uk.
