A MALDON man has admitted taking part in a brutal attack on two men which left them with serious injuries.

Lee Knight and Alex Waterman were assaulted on August 29 2015 whilst on a night out in Chelmsford High Street.

Knight suffered a fractured eye socket, fractured nose, bruised eye, lip and nose, and swelling to the head.

Waterman was treated for bruising to his forehead and nose, and swelling to his eye.

Luke Saggs, 21, of Tintagel Way, Maldon, and Daniel Williamson, 24, of Onslow Crescent, Colchester, admitted charges of causing grievous bodily harm, actual bodily harm and violent disorder at Chelmsford Crown Court.

The pair will be sentenced on April 10.

Two other men denied the charges.

Brothers, Anis Miah, 23, and Mamun Miah, 27, both of Cross Road, Maldon, say they have been wrongly identified and were at home sleeping whilst the attack took place.

However Patrick Dennis, prosecuting, told the court on Tuesday: “Mamun Miah is the first to react.

“He grabs Mr Knight and hurls him to the ground.

“Mamun goes after him and punches him in the head a couple of times.

“Williamson and Saggs then approach him and continue the assault, causing Mr Knight to fall to the floor.

“Anis then joins, stamping repeatedly on Mr Knight’s head as he attempt to cover up and protect himself.

“Mr Waterman tries to intervene, taking hold of Anis. That leads to the attack on him, which allows Anis to return to Mr Knight where he once again puts the boot into him.

“The two brothers fist bump and high five before leaving the scene.”

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the attack.

The court also heard witness statements from the two victims, neither of whom can remember much of the evening due to drinking and the attack.

Mr Knight, through his statement, described leaving The Ship pub, on Broomfield Road.

The next thing he remembers, he said, was being treated in a first aid centre on the street.

Other than that, all he can remember is being led on the floor protecting himself.
