A DANBURY theatre school pupil is celebrating after landing a role in a hit West End musical.

Alex Stuckey, ten, will take to the stage in Matilda the Musical after winning the role of Nigel – one of Matilda’s classmates.

Alex has been training at Danbury based Tomorrow’s Talent since he was six and has already starred in GYPSY the musical alongside Imelda Staunton.

He said: “I play the role Nigel and he is a really cool and fun character. He likes everything to be perfect and gets very stressed out if he gets things wrong.

“I have two favourite parts of the show. The first one is when we go on the swings in the song ‘When I Grow Up’ and my second is the number ‘Revolting Children’ as you can tell the audience are having such a good time.”

Alex took part in auditions across a few days as his acting, singing and dancing ability was assessed.

He added: “Rehearsals were quite like the auditions to be honest. We had to work hard to make sure that we knew what we were doing at all times.

“It was so exciting to think that we were actually getting ready to be in the show.”

Alex, who lives in Chelmsford, hopes to continue in musical theatre with ambitions to star as Willy Wonka in the stage musical.

But if he is not performing he hopes to design and build rollercoasters.

Gavin Wilkinson, principal at Tomorrow’s Talent, said: “Alex first came to Tomorrow’s Talent aged just 6 and was rather shy and quiet.

“With Alex’s hard work and determination, he has just opened in his second West End production at the age of 10.

“Alex is a testament to the wealth of talented young people that we have in the local area with many of our students performing leading roles both on stage and screen.”
