PIZZA fans in Burnham must wait a little longer for a slice of the action after the long-awaited opening of the fast food chain was delayed until next month.

Domino’s Pizza was given permission in February to turn St Mary’s Church Hall, in Station Road, into its latest outlet.

It was due to open the doors to its new store, which will create 25 jobs, on Monday.

But the chain announced there had been delays during the fit-out and it would now not open until next month.

One user posted to the page: "I have planned a very important trip to Burnham just to see the opening, I am not happy about this as I have booked days off work! I'll have to bring cold pizza to my best friend from another store!"

The pizza chain had been due to open in the summer but is still awaiting approval for the discharge of conditions and for its proposed new signs from Maldon District Council.

Last year Domino’s was criticised for failing to provide sufficient information on how it would deal with the smell and noise.

Conditions were set out to mitigate the effects of any smells and sounds after concerned from residents in the Station Road area.

Ricky Kandola, operations director at Domino’s said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our doors to the people of Burnham on Crouch and are committed to delivering lip-smacking, scrummy pizza to the local community to help make their nights in totally pizza-tastic.

“There’s also plenty of employment opportunity for people living in Burnham on Crouch, so we look forward to welcoming local pizza superstars to join our growing team.

“In particular we’re searching for delivery drivers, who can provide exceptional customer service, and demonstrate integrity, honesty and reliability, as well as being pepperoni passionate for freshly made pizza.”
