A CHRISTMAS card pop up shop in Maldon Library is soon to close.

The shop, one of 300 temporary stores across the country is staffed by volunteers and due to close on December 16, with cards being sold to raise money for more than 30 national and local charities.

The Cards for Good Causes shop has raised more than £40 million for charities around the UK in the last ten years.

The  Maldon shop, based in the Library on White Horse Lane, opened last month, and has been collecting money for local charities such as Farleigh Hospice.

Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive of Cards for Good Causes, said: “We believe that people still place great value in giving and receiving Christmas cards. For many people it is the main occasion in the year that they take the time to write and send cards.

“People actively want to use buying Christmas cards as an opportunity to support specific charities.”

Cards are available to buy, along with advent calendars, candles, wrapping paper and stocking fillers, from 10am to 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until December 16.
