A COUNCILLOR has urged drivers to respect the Dengie’s roads following a fatal crash.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Maldon Road near Bradwell-on-Sea on Monday, November 21 after a Ford Focus was in collision with a Citreon DS3.

Two people in their eighties were freed from the Ford and tak- en to Broomfield Hospital.

The passenger in the Ford later died from his injuries on Friday.

Richard Dewick, district councillor for Tillingham, whose ward covers Bradwell-on-Sea, said traffic accidents along the Dengie roads have increased in the past ten years.

He said: “I’ve lived in this area all my life, and it seems that road accidents have become a lot more frequent in the last ten years.

“It’s caused by some drivers just not respecting the roads and its bends.

“As sad as this crash will have been, things should be learnt from it.”

Adam Pipe, Essex Police’s Casualty Reduction Officer, said: “We would not be able to draw any conclusions as to the cause of this crash at this time.

“In regards to general road use in the Dengie, we tend to see a lot of over-familiarity with some drivers not taking necessary precautions with bends.

“We are aware of the people of Bradwell’s concerns about speeding, and we will do what we can to tackle it.

“We’ve teamed up with Maldon District Council to bring out a new initiative which will be pushing the boundaries of what we’ve done before, which we hope to fully announce in January.”

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash on Monday, November 21 at 12.25pm.

A spokesman said: “The Ford driver has been released from hospital and is now at home in the care of their family.”

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said: “Crews worked with paramedics to cut out and rescue one casualty trapped in their vehicle.”
