ANGRY residents have vowed to fight on against an “unjust, unfair and undemocratic” developer’s plans for 140 homes.

Gladman Developments has submitted outline proposals for the homes on land east of Runsell View and north of Maldon Road in Danbury.

But campaign group Hands Off Danbury has launched a battle against the bid.

Gladman has already applied for planning permission for homes in Southminster, Mayland, Burnham and Hatfield Peverel.

Chairman Mark Scofield said: “They are all over the country – it is like a virus.

“One of the objection letters is from a man whose daughter was killed in a crash on the A414.

“He said if it gets any worse [it could happen again] and he doesn’t want it to happen to anyone else. That spurred me on to fight this battle for her.

“The people of Danbury will not take this laying down.

“We are not against development in the village but it needs to be organic and it needs to evolve and be sustainable.

“It is not the only development. It is beyond the pale, we are not just fighting this one we are fighting all of them.”

Other plans include a 72 bed care home on land adjacent to Danbury Medical Centre and 150 homes off Maldon Road.

There are also proposals for up to 5,000 for land in Little Baddow.

The campaign group has printed 2,500 leaflets to send to residents explaining the plans and how to object.

Mr Scofield added: “Democracy has gone out the window.

“We want people to come to village, we welcome people coming to live in our village. We all appreciate how beautiful it is.

“We are the custodians of this village and we want to say where developments go, not some property developer.”

A public meeting to discuss the plans was due to take place on Tuesday night.
