WITH reference to the article about the Burnham Recycling Depot having the facility to take ‘trade’ waste removed, I would like to add that Maldon Council should overturn this decision and that as they will have to pay to remove any fly tipped goods, and add that cost to our council taxes.

It is strange how Essex CC removed the height barriers, which prevented a lot of ‘trade waste’ at the facilities and now complain of the ‘trade’ waste at the facility and state that they want to stop it by removing any recycling of ‘trade’ waste, which will of course affect DIYers and those wishing to tidy their gardens of excess soil and rubble or even dump broken crockery.

Cllr Simon Walsh, whose idea this was, will be unaffected.

He is responsible, among his other duties, of “Waste minimisation, disposal and recycling,” so if items are fly tipped instead, does this mean that he gets a pat on the back for having minimised the waste at the recycling depots as fly tipping is under Maldon Council’s remit?

Firms must pay to dispose of refuse

FOLLOWING the article in last week’s Standard (Residents Fear Future Closure of Recycling Tip), I need to set the record straight.

What we are about to do is make some changes to stop people un- lawfully disposing of business and trade waste at recycling centres, which is at the expense of the tax- payer because businesses should be making their own arrangements and paying to dispose of the waste they generate.

From October 31, residents will still be able to dispose of their household waste at any of our centres across the county, and dispose of DIY waste at selected sites.

The vast majority of people will notice no difference, other than that it may be easier and quicker to use sites, because trade waste is being disposed of where it should be.
