MALDON unemployment figures have risen this month but remain historically low according to the Department for Work and Pensions.
The latest Labour Market Statistics showed that the number of people in the district who were out of work and seeking employment was 335, up five from last month’s figure of 330.
Dave Cope, manager of Job Centre Plus for the region, said this small rise wasn’t a big concern and things in Maldon were still looking promising.
He said: “It is such a small increase. It is certainly not something we would be overly worried about at this stage.
“We will obviously be keeping an eye on it though as it is not a trend we would want to see develop.
“The rates remain extremely low. The figures in Maldon over the last few months have been at their lowest points since records began.”
