MALDON Rotary Club have purchased 5,000 crocus bulbs in support of a campaign to eliminate polio.

The “Purple 4 Polio” campaign is part of a worldwide campaign in which the Royal Horticultural Society is partnering with Rotary International to plant five million Crocus Ruby Giant across the globe.

The crocuses are popular and reliable with rich purple flowers, yellow anthers and fine narrow leaves.

They are a symbol of Rotary’s worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, with the colour purple used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunized.

The planting morning took place at Promenade Park on Monday with members of the Maldon Rotary Club and Maldon in Bloom team.

There will be another planting session organised next week. To get involved, call 01621 853428.
