MEMBERS of Maldon District Council met their potential replacements as they visited this year’s Maldon Primary School Council.

Maldon District Council Chairman, Peter Elliot, who presented the successful candidates with a special school council badge, said: “I think this is a great example of democracy and I am pleased to have met these young people.”

Lea Tyler, Deputy Headteacher at the school, said: “Pupils who wished to put themselves forward had to give a small presentation on why they would be a good choice for the role and a secret ballot was held.

“We have looked at how a democracy works at an age related level, so the children know that our council very much mirrors what happens in the world around them.”

The school council’s first job will be to redesign the school’s achievement certificates.
