HUNDRERDS of people turned out to witness Stow Maries most successful flying event of the year.

The grey clouds and dreary weather didn’t put people off turning up to the Great War Aerodrome in Purleigh to see vintage aircraft take to the skies.

The event, held on Bank Holiday Sunday, featured a range of rare and classic planes take flight, including an Albatros, a Sopwith Snipe, a Dragon Rapide, and a Falcon.

Other vehicles remained grounded to allow crowds to take a closer look at them. Those in attendance were given the chance to get up close to a Sopwith Camel and a Fokker Eindekker.

Ian Flint, CEO of Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome Trust, said: “It’s been an incredibly busy year for us, especially as out flying events now have a loyal following.

“We’re now looking towards our centenary Event on September 17 and 18. It will be the climax of many hours of hard work by our team of staff and volunteers.”
