A HEYBRIDGE smokehouse is commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Maldon with its own special release.

Lambton & Jackson, based on Chigborough Lane, Heybridge, have developed a special Scandinavian smoked salmon to commemorate the 1025th anniversary of the event.

The battle saw Viking raiders defeat an Anglo-Saxon force close to the River Blackwater.

Lambton & Jackson has created its own Juniper smoked salmon in the hope that it will inspire people to learn more about the battle.

Darcy Lambton runs the company, along with co-founder Sean Jackson.

He said of the new offering: “The Vikings loved pillaging in our region so it’s about time we paid them back. That’s why we plundered the idea for our latest smoked salmon straight from their homeland.

“The wood used in the smoking process is a classic Scandinavian blend of beech, alder and juniper.

“We would be delighted if people are now encouraged to read up on the battle and its historical significance.”

Lambton & Jackson has been based in Heybridge since its inception in 2014 and have provided Michelin-starred restaurants and TV celebrity chef Marcus Wareing.
