WILLIAM de Ferrers School in South Woodham Ferrers is celebrating their “tremendous” successes after a fantastic set of A-level results today.

Another landmark day for the school saw 77 per cent of students achieving A*-C grades in their result, a small increase over last year, with over 50 per cent attaining A*-B grades in Year 13.

Last year history was made when the number of students achieving A*-B rose to over 50 per cent for the first time, with the school being overjoyed that the figure has remained.

Among the high achieving students in Year 13 were Matthew Gogerly who achieved three A* and one A grades; Jake Peters who achieved three A* grades and Catrina Kemp achieved one A*, two As and one B grade.

Many of the school’s students have secured places at top Russell Group universities, with Charlie Hailes being offered a place at Oxford University to read classics.

Successes in Year 12 include Chloe Adams who achieved four A grades in Business, Law, Mathematics and Travel and Tourism; Matthew Gordon who achieved four A grades in Chemistry, Mathematics, Further mathematics and Economics and Jessica Rawlings who achieved four A grades in English Literature, Geography, Biology and Travel and Tourism.

Mike Applewhite, Acting Headteacher, said: “We are delighted that the students have achieved the best results ever at AS level this summer. The students have achieved particularly well in Biology, Chemistry, Business Studies, Classics, Drama, Economics, Geography, Travel and Tourism and ICT.

“We are very pleased with the results in A level science subjects, particularly in Physics where 70 per cent of students achieved an A*-B grade.

“All our students have achieved success this summer which reflects both the staff and students’ hard work and commitment.

“Congratulations to all our students and all the best to those who now leave us for university, apprenticeships or the world of work.”
