A FUNDRAISING drive in memory of a woman who died from a brain tumour has hit its £50,000 target.

Chloe Glynn, died just before Christmas in 2011, aged 23.

She was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2009, but developed hydrocephalus, or water on the brain, following the removal of the tumour.

Chloe had subsequent operations, including having a drain fitted to take the water away, but she died during an operation in December 2011.

Her mum Angela Downs and the rest of the family started fundraising for the Brain Tumour Charity at her funeral before setting a £50,000 fundraising goal.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Fundraisers have included sponsored walks, marathons, bike rides, fun days and sky dives.

They sold a cycling suit signed by Olympian Laura Trott on eBay.

Mrs Downs, 54, said: “She would have been delighted to know that was her legacy.

“Just before she died she had found out about what was then Brain Tumour UK – now the Brain Tumour Charity – and said I am going to start supporting them so people in the future don’t have to suffer like this.

“At her funeral we had a collection and I think we raised £1,700 from that.”

After Chloe’s death, people contacted the family to say they would like to raise money in Chloe’s name.

Mrs Downs said: “A lot of people have done various things, we’ve had a couple of marathons, sky dives, and parties with prizes. People in the community all got behind it and a lot of money has been raised in only four years.

“She was quite young but she was pretty well known. It is nice people remember her still.”

Mrs Downs added: “We won’t stop. It has been really nice to reach that really big amount of money – it is really significant.”
