WORK to install the first turbines at a new Southminster wind farm will begin in August.

Developer RES is currently building the windfarm, between Southminster and Burnham.

Permission for the wind farm was won at appeal in February 2014 after Maldon District Council rejected the plans.

The farm is expected to be capable of powering 14,000 homes.

Construction of the seven turbines is expected to be completed by the end of September.

In July cranes were delivered to the site to help unload turbine parts from vessels on the River Crouch.

One of those cranes will now be withdrawn.

However another two cranes will be needed to assist with the construction work.

These will be delivered on Monday August 1 and Monday August 8.

To accommodate these movements, RES is asking people to avoid parking on High Street and Station Road in Southminster on both dates between 9am and 3pm.

Tracy Scott, Project Manager for RES’ Turncole Wind Farm said: “We have reached a real milestone at Turncole Wind Farm with the first marine lifts taking place successfully.

“We would like to thank Southminster residents for their patience and ongoing assistance during the crane delivery period.”
