CONTROVERSIAL plans for a caravan site at Bradwell Marina have been submitted for a second time.

Strutt and Parker has applied to Maldon District Council to change the use of land in Waterside Road on behalf of Port Flair.

The plans would see 70 static caravans for holiday use put up, plus an office space, amenity block, open space and a children’s playground.

If given the go-ahead, the caravans would be occupied between March and October.

The initial plans submitted were rejected by Maldon District Council last year following opposition from the Bradwell Against the Caravan Site group.

Villagers were concerned the plans, if given the green light, would see the population double in size.

A campaign group spokesman said: “Everyone is really disappointed it has come back again.

“We are going to take it to the parish council about getting a neighbourhood plan.

“The problem is we think it is going to come back every year.”

The spokesman said while a neighbourhood plan would not stop applications going through, it was hoped it would ‘add weight’ to their arguments against proposals.

He added: “We want to try and get the council to give us a guarantee for the future.”

The latest plans for the 6.6 hec- tares of grassland were submitted earlier this month. In Strutt and Parker’s statement of community involvement, it said a pre-submission consultation in 2014 had generated a negative response from residents.

The original plans were rejected in December due to the site being in an ‘inappropriate location’ and would have resulted in an ‘incongruous form of development’.
