A NOTORIOUS criminal has been banned from driving despite never having a licence.

Jack Psaras has managed to tot up enough points in driving bans even though he only has a provisional licence.

He was banned for offence number 55 and 56 when he admitted driving without a licence or insurance at Colchester Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Psaras, 30, of Ward Chase, Walton, told the court he was moving house and it was raining so he decided to drive.

Colette Harper, prosecuting, said: "It was 1.20pm on Friday June 17 when police spotted a black Vauxhall Astra on London Road, Clacton.

"It had been parked on double yellows on Old Road.

"It flagged as no current owner or insurance.

Psaras was stopped, identified and arrested.

He told the court: "I have a provisional licence and thought the car was insured.

"I had only just bought the car.

"I had to move.

"It was raining and I had to put my clothes in there.

"I should not have driven it.

"I had to move it or it would be taken away. Now it has been."

The unemployed labourer has not worked for months and his benefits have been stopped.

He was ordered to pay a £200 fine and £115 in costs and charges.

He already owes almost £1,500 in costs and charges from previous convictions.

Psaras was warned if he does not pay he will be jailed.

He was also given a mandatory six month ban from the roaf, after being given six points in penalties on top of the six points he already had on his licence for driving without insurance.
