BURNHAM ALLOTMENTS are to receive a makeover in the next few weeks as they are made disabled friendly.
Burnham Town Council approved a request from Create and Flourish to improve accessibility to the allotments at a Town Council meeting on Tuesday.
The work will see a ramp installed and the ground levelled to make accessing the site easier for wheelchair users.
Sharon Chan, from Create and Flourish, said: “We are looking to get the work done as soon as possible now.
“We are hoping to put in a ramp leading to the sheds and we would like to level the plot of land off for wheelchair users.
“It’s very important to make the land accessible to everyone, no matter their disability.”
The proposal was approved by all members of Burnham Town Council.
Town Mayor, Councillor Ron Pratt, said: “The council has a responsibility to make sure the land can be used by the whole community and we are happy to help with anyone looking to do that.
“We are just the landlords of the site. The work will be funded by Create and Flourish.
“They came to us out of courtesy and we were more than happy for it to go ahead.”
Create and Flourish do a lot of work at the Burnham allotments.
On Friday’s the group run a ‘Create for Wellbeing’ group, where those suffering with mental disabilities can work on the allotments.
