VOLUNTEERS are desperately needed to ensure Burnham Quay Day goes ahead this year.

Quay Day is at risk of being cancelled due to a lack of people willing to help.

The annual event has become a highlight of Burnham Week.

Every year the Quay is closed off to traffic and lined with stalls offering food, entertainment and games.

While, on the water, racing takes place along with other water based activities.

Burnham Town Mayor, Councillor Ron Pratt, said of the issue: “It is a sad fact that unless volunteers come forward to help with Quay Day it will not happen, which will be a huge shame.

“It is becoming such an important feature of Burnham Week.

“I know everybody at the council, and many of the town’s clubs are very keen that it continues because it draws so many spectators to the racing.

“We are hoping some residents will step up to help with the organisation of the day and also the day itself.

“Whether that be setting up marquees, manning stalls, anything like that.”

This year’s Quay Day will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29.
