A LATCHINGDON vineyard has won two gold medals at the East Anglian wine competition.

Clayhill Vineyard won the top prize for their 2014 sparkling wines, ‘Ladybird Blush’ and ‘Messenger’.

‘Ladybird Blush’ also went on to claim the Shear Trophy, presented to the best sparkling wine in East Anglia.

The Vineyard is owned and run by Dale Symons and his wife Victoria.

Their two children, Emily and Drew, have also been involved from the start in 2006.

The awards weren’t all the Symons family had to celebrate, as Clayhill Vineyard marks its 10-year anniversary.

Dale Symons said: “This is a real family triumph.

“We are thrilled to have won these wonderful awards in this, our 10th year, and it is nice to feel that all the hard work has paid off.

“We have always aimed to produce wine which we enjoyed, but for the first time, we thought we would enter the regional competition to see what others thought.

“We are delighted that both our sparkling wines were so well received.”
