BURNHAM Town Council have re-elected Councillor Ron Pratt as their mayor for another year.

Mr Pratt, who is also District Councillor for Burnham South Ward, was re-elected at the town council’s meeting last week by a majority of six votes, with two abstentions and two votes against.

Ron said: “I am pleased to be able to help out the people of Burnham for an additional year. With our town clerk stepping down in July and the appointment of a new deputy mayor I am glad I can carry over my experience to keep the council running efficiently.”

Councillor Una Norman, for Burnham North Ward, was elected as the new deputy mayor of Burnham with a 7-3 majority vote.

Other external bodies and committees of the council were also appointed, with many bodies remaining the same as previous years.

The town allotment and garden association was taken over by Councillor Norman, with Councillor Bob Calver of Burnham South Ward joining the Environment and Joint Clubs Committees.

A new external body was formed at the meeting, the Riverside Park Task Force, with the aim of maintaining the standard of the riverside park in the area. Councillors Bob Calver, Tania Ward, Wendy Stamp and Una Norman were appointed to the committee.

The Town Mayor’s allowance was also unanimously agreed for the 2016/17 period as £1,000, with portions being able to transfer to the deputy mayor should the funds be required for their duties.
