MORE people are being called on to get involved in a weekly parkrun event.

The parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am in Maldon’s Promenade Park.

The event is free to take part in and is open to runners of all ages and abilities.

The standard parkrun covers a distance of 5km, while there is also a Sunday morning junior parkrun for four-14-year-olds of 2km.

The first Maldon parkrun took place in 2013, and the event has only grown in popularity since then.

Ron Pratt, Chairman of the District Council’s Community Services Committee, said: “Maldon parkrun was started in August 2013 by a group of local enthusiasts who wanted a parkrun in Maldon.

“Since then the event has gone from strength to strength and over 3,000 people have completed the route. It’s great to see so many people taking advantage of this free initiative.

Maldon District Council to help establish the parkrun and junior parkrun locally and continues to support the parkrun ethos of providing a free event open to everyone.

“All parkruns across the world need the support of park operators and are only made possible by a fantastic volunteer team.”
