A MUSIC school is hoping to hit the right note when it opens a second project in Burnham.

Former Maldon driving instructor Joy Smith, of Southminster, launched the Rock Project in Danbury in January.

Now she is expanding to Burnham after getting enquiries from people in the area.

“We have had calls from people in the Burnham area who wanted to come to the session, but obviously it's a logistical exercise getting children from school and over to Danbury in time for the sessions,” she said.

“I really don’t like to turn children away, so we took their details and decided as soon as we could to open in Burnham.

“Places at the Danbury school filled quickly, with just a few spaces left for junior bass and vocals, so the time is right to open a second school.”

Mother-of-two Joy is a singer who has performed regularly across Essex during the past 16 years, as part of the five-piece rock ‘n’ roll cover band Excellent Giffords and modern choir Sound Collective Chorus.

Joy, 46, added: “The Rock Project combines my love of music and helping young people develop new skills.

“Music has meant so much to me, it’s great to see young people develop confidence and play the rock and pop music they love.”

The Rock Project will open Ormiston Rivers Academy on May 4.

The Rock Project classes are divided into a junior session for 7-11 year olds from 4.30-6.30pm and a senior session for 12-18 year olds from 6.45 to 8:45pm.

All of the instruments are supplied for the sessions.
