TV star Robson Green got stuck in the mud as he took on Maldon’s iconic mud race for a new ITV show.

Green was in Maldon on Monday afternoon to film part of series Tales from the Coast which will broadcast next year.

He was seen filming in Promenade Park before taking to the Blackwater Estuary to take on the mud.

Maldon’s annual mud race will take place next Sunday, but it is thought Green’s filming schedule meant it was not possible for him to attend.

Visitors to Promenade Park spoke of their surprise at seeing Green, who has appeared in Granchester, Waterloo Road and Casualty.

Carlie Mayes, 52, from Utling, managed to get a selfie with the star, who also known for presenting Extreme Fishing with Robson Green.

She said: “It was all very funny but he was an extremely personable man. He was a very pleasant man.

“My son Connor has just finished at Italia Conti [London performing arts school] and Robson asked if he had got a job and said he should keep looking.

“He obviously had heard about the mud race and thought it was a great idea and wanted to be involved.

“He couldn’t be there on the actual date so he was filming then.”

Carlie and a friend watched and filmed as Green took to the mud for a mini version of the race. Carlie said: “He is a fit guy and didn’t have any problems with the course.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“We were surprised to see him – we were just down there walking the dogs.

“I was the first person to speak to him, nobody else would approach him but [actors] are just people and I think sometimes people forget that.

“He was a really nice guy.

“It was all kept hush, hush as they didn’t want too many people down there.”

Tales from the Coast is currently being filmed by ITV and is expected to air next year.
