A NEW project has been launched to help people improve their health and wellbeing and get more involved in their community.

The Connect Well programme has been set up by EssexConnects, which links people in Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford to support groups and volunteering opportunities.

Through an online referral tool Connect Well can also find social activities, community transport and other useful services in the area.

A health fair took place at Maldon District Council’s offices in Princes Road to coincide with the launch.

Activities on offer for people who use the service include volunteering opportunities, befriending and social activities, support and self-help group, managing money and community transport.

Ron Pratt, Chairman of the District Council’s Community Services Committee, said: “Having a better quality of life for our residents is a top priority for the Council. This new initiative can help us to help our local communities, and offers people the opportunity to seek support before they develop a more serious health condition.”

Anne Brown, Cabinet Member for Communities and Healthy Living at Essex County Council, added: “When someone needs help, it’s not always for medical issues – sometimes they simply need help accessing support, activities and other services.

“Connect Well is a great way to directly improve people’s health and well-being, support communities’ development and increase social inclusion.”
