BRAVE nine-year-old who has been through 14 gruelling cycles of chemotherapy has flew to America to have his wish granted by a charity.

Timmy Shipton was given the all-clear just days before his ninth birthday in August last year.

The keen footballer and cricketer was granted his wish to travel to Seattle and watch a Seattle Seahawkes game in last month by children’s charity Starlight.

Timmy suffered a rare bone cancer – Ewing’s sarcoma – and was diagnosed last August after suffering a pain in his side.

In January last year, he had major surgery to remove a rib where the tumour had started.

Parts of the ribs above and below were also removed, along with part of his lung and diaphragm during the operation at the Royal Brompton Hospital, in London.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

Timmy was referred to Starlight while undergoing his treatment and told he could wish for anything he wanted.

The charity then arranged a special two days in Seattle for Timmy and his parents Maggie and Darren.

When Timmy arrived at CenturyLink Field, the home stadium of the Seattle Seahawks, the Seahawks had pulled out all the stops with welcome banners with his name on and proceeded to give Timmy high fives.

He was also showered with Seahawks goodies and introduced to the whole team.

Timmy got to meet his favourite player Russell Wilson and was given a pair of his football boots.

Mum Maggie, of Derby Close, Mayland, said: “Timmy braved his diagnosis like no one I’ve ever know.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

“There have been times when he has been so sick and weak but he never once complained.

“He had the most amazing time at the Seahawks. It has been out of this world and more than we could have ever hoped for.”
