A NIGHT of classic Genesis music promises to be a real treat for prog rock fans when the Watch come to town.

The Milan-based outfit have garnered praise from the likes of former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and Genesis artist Paul Whitehead.

The gig will take place at the Cricketers Inn, London Road, Westcliff, on Saturday.

It follows their show last year, which was reported to have been a success, and their two releases of original material, called Ghost and Vacuum.

These days their live shows are dedicated to deliciously intense performances of classic Genesis songs from the Peter Gabriel era.

The band have created a loyal fanbase across Europe.

“We have friends in Southend and this is a lovely place for us to visit,” says singer Simone Rossetti, whose dramatic Gabrielesque vocals define the band’s style. “It’s good to play Genesis’s music in a small venue where the audience is right on top of you.

“It means you can’t escape from all the tension in the quiet moments and the power of the big explosive climaxes.”

This group is said to really capture the electricity and raw emotion of Genesis in their pioneering days, so this promises to be a great night for prog fans.
