A COASTAL community team will be set up to tackle issues in the River Blackwater area.

Maldon District Council, in partnership with Rochford District Council, is bringing together businesses, leaders and volunteers, to form two coastal groups.

The other will be for the River Crouch area.

A consultation event will take place on October 26 in Maldon for local people and businesses.

It has been made possible by using funds made available by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

The two teams will share ideas on how best to promote their areas and how different organisations and stakeholders can work together to identify priorities, solve issues and coordinate local projects.

The consultation events will support the production of an economic plan and help put the district in a stronger position to apply for funding.

Penny Channer, chairman of the council’s planning and licensing committee, said: “I am delighted that the council is using this opportunity to facilitate partnership working, between the private, voluntary and public sectors. “The Maldon District is an exciting and diverse place and we should all want to work together to ensure its prosperity.

“I am certain that, with all the District has to offer, we can capitalise on this work, overcome obstacles and produce real outcomes for residents and visitors to the District.”

Anyone interested in providing their views on the current issues, or future development of the River Blackwater or River Crouch areas, or who wants to attend the event, should email coastalcommunityteam@maldon.gov.uk.

The consultation event takes place at Thistle barge at Hythe Quay, Maldon from midday.
