THE family of a young woman who died in her sleep hopes to raise enough money to hold a screening event to prevent the tragedy happening to others.

Charlotte Adams, 23, was a healthy and energetic young woman with a bright future ahead of her when, one night, she went to sleep and never woke up.

Apart from complaining of tiredness, Charlotte had no health complaints. Her death, in November last year, was unexpected and devastating for her family.

It was later found Charlotte died of sudden arrhythmia death syndrome, also known as sudden adult death syndrome, or Sads.

Now, her family hope to raise enough money to hold a screening event with charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry) to help detect cardiac abnormalities in young people.

Charlotte’s mother, Kate Bome, 51, an office manager at Great Totham Primary School, said: “At the event, there would be ECG tests and appointments with doctors which can hopefully pick up any abnormalities.

“This terrible ordeal has made me want to do positive things to keep her alive in our hearts by saving other young people and preventing another family going through the same heartache.”

One year on from Charlotte’s funeral, two concerts featuring tribute acts to Olly Murs, Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé are being staged by local entertainer Andy Wilsher at the Witham Public Hall on December 8 and 9.

Jackie Dyer, Mr Wilsher’s manager, said: “It is suchadevastating story.

“We know Kate through some events held at her school and the Cry charity is also close to Andy’s heart as a family friend also died of Sads, aged 30, a few years ago.

“We hope the raffle will raise lots of money for this worthy cause.”

All raffle money raised on the night will go towards the cost of a screening event.

Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets cost £15.
