A boatyard based on Burnham’s Quayside for 123 years is to be replaced by housing.

A public consultation on plans to turn Priors Boatyard into up to 20 two and three-bedroom houses will be held today.

Owner Robin Prior (below), who is the fourth generation of his family to run the boatyard, said a combination of his three-year battle with leukaemia combined with a bleak economic outlook had prompted the move.

Mr Prior, 55, said any development would be in keeping with the area and would involve tidying the riverside and keeping at least 90 moorings.

The consultation takes place today at Burnham Town Council offices, Chapel Road, between 2pm and 5pm and 6pm and 9pm.
