A DEVELOPER has pledged up to £9million for Maldon’s new hospital – if it is allowed to build 340 homes in the town.

Kensington and Edinburgh Estates will make a legally binding pledge to provide a replacement to St Peter’s Hospital if its hugely controversial plans for Maldon Hall Farm get the go-ahead.

Speaking at St Peter’s Hospital, the crumbling former Victorian workhouse, managing director Spencer Cooper told the Standard the land and building would be gifted to Maldon District Council free of charge.
