Members of the public are invited to scrutinise Maldon District Council’s accounts.

The council has announced that from July 24 to August 20, anyone may inspect and make copies of the accounts for the last financial year.

People may view all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts at the council offices in Princes Road, Maldon.

Prior to inspection, interested parties must contact the council’s director of resources.

Maldon district residents may also question auditors about the accounts by arrangement on August 21.

They may make objections on which the auditor can take action under the Audit Commission Act, for example if they believe there something unlawful in the accounts or a loss caused by wilful misconduct.

However, no objection can be made unless the auditor has previously received written notice of the proposed objections and its grounds.

A copy of this must be sent to the council.
