Developers want to create two solar farms.
Lightsource Renewable Energy Ltd is keen to construct a solar farm at Corporation Farm, Hackmans Lane, near Cock Clarks.
The site is the size of about 15 football pitches (11 hectares), but only three hectares would be used for the solar farm.
The farm would generate enough energy to power 1,500 family homes.
Construction would take about 10 to 12 weeks.
Once in place, there would be 10 to 20 visits per year by technicians for maintenance.
In a report to Maldon District Council, Lightsource stated: “The proposed site is not located within a sensitive area, however it is located 750m to a Conservation Area which encompasses the Stow Maries World War One Airfield.”
Lightsource is also looking to create a 3.5 hectare solar farm at Flambirds Farm, Hackmans Lane.
In both cases, Lightsource has asked the council whether an environmental impact assessment needs to be carried out prior to planning applications.
