Residents packed out a church to give Maldon’s parliamentary candidates a grilling.
Beverley Acevedo (UKIP), Zoe O’Connell (Lib Dem), Peter Edwards (Labour) and John Whittingdale (Con) faced a series of burning questions from the public, ranging from reliance on the district’s foodbanks, Maldon High Street shops, Plume pupils paying their way through university, the UK’s defence, same sex marriage and the economy.
It was standing room only at Maldon’s United Reformed Church in Market Hill as the hustings took place on Sunday evening, chaired by Rev Mark Ambrose.
At one point, a question on the economic recovery caused candidates to clash over the health of Maldon High Street businesses.
